By Pablo Tonini. Correspondent

Miami, Jun. 16 (Notimex).-Mexico's Interior Minister Miguel Osorio Chong urged his "neighbors" of the North Triangle and the United States to act with "urgency" to end a "historical" phenomenon that " Adversely affects our countries and implies a risk to prosperity. "

During the second day of the Conference on Prosperity and Security, which addresses the fight against organized crime and cooperation, Osorio Chong said: "It is important to act with determination" without time to lose "to put an end to the inertias that have prevailed in the past".

In a call to work together on the "complex" challenges facing Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador (Northern Triangle Countries) and North America, the official stressed the importance of "going to the bottom of problems and their roots".

"We must keep in mind that there are no short courses and that the challenges and opportunities go beyond the borders of geopolitics," he added.

The Mexican official said that "what is advisable for all, as neighboring countries, is to work on shared security objectives" and to address the problems from a "regional perspective."

"What happens in one of our nations has consequences in the rest" and that requires that the borders "are more than dividing lines and also points of union and exchange," he stressed.

The official said that this meeting is to "translate dialogue into agreements and agreements on solutions" because the region "deserves a future project with a long-term perspective."

Chong added that as governments "we are called to make decisions in the background to overcome historical trends" that "are not mere palliatives."

He spoke for "thinking in structural terms and with a positive disposition" to "reinforce the scaffolding and the institutional solidity of our relations and to face the challenges with determination and co-responsibility".

"What is at stake is the welfare of our nationals. Not only what happens today or tomorrow, but for decades and that is something that is built here and now, "he concluded.
