Mexico, Jun. 16 (Notimex) .- The Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE, for its acronym in Spanish) welcomed the announcement by the United States Department of Homeland Security for the United Nations Deferred Action Program for Arrivals (DACA) will remain in effect.
The US government also stated that the eligible persons will continue to have the option of renewing the work permit every two years.
According to SRE, mexicans are the group that has benefited most from this program, since from January 1 to March 31 of this year were approved 17 thousand 157 requests from compatriots.
This is based on the figures from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Services (USCIS), which indicate that in that period, 14 thousand 330 initial DACA applications have been approved, with the corresponding figures for Mexicans representing 81 percent.
Meanwhile, it was explained that in that period the USCIS approved a total of 107 thousand 473 applications for DACA renewal, of which 85 thousand 888 belong to Mexicans, or 79 percent.
Likewise, it was indicated that of the 787 thousand 580 young people favored since the beginning of the program 618 thousand 342 are Mexicans, that is to say 78 percent, and of the 799 thousand 077 requests for renewal 622 thousand 170 are of Mexicans, equivalent to 77 percent.
In a statement, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said that since the announcement of DACA in 2012, the Mexican government has promoted eligible young people to access this program and since the beginning of the new administration in the United States insisted on the continuation of this program.
The Ministry also called on the Mexican and Mexican-American community to keep informed about this program by official means, the embassy and 50 consulates in the United States.
