Mexico, Jun. 16 (Notimex).- Regardless of the political events or difficult times that Mexico and the United Kingdom are going through, both nations will continue to maintain a close relationship and strategic partners, said ambassador Duncan Taylor.
The UK representative in Mexico stressed that both countries are committed to further developing of the bilateral relationship, which is at its best, in which they agree on issues of the global agenda and in international forums such as the G20.
"The relationship between the UK and Mexico is magnificent and is becoming stronger, deeper and wider, I think we are two countries that share values, and we are increasingly strategic partners at a global level, we are working on more and more issues together" he added.
During the celebration of the 91st birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, the ambassador said that "we are fully committed to eventually seek a Free Trade Agreement with Mexico, and give priority to the development of our economic relations."
He said he was very enthusiastic after Minister of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, said a day after of the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU) that Mexico is willing and prepared to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement when the British country is ready.
Duncan Taylor said that in terms of trade and investment, in addition of coming out in less than two years of the European Union (EU), "gives a very strong motivation to develop the relationship we have with our most important partners outside Europe, and Mexico is one of them."
At the celebration, the diplomat presented the "Innovation UKMX" campaign, which will last a year, and seek to promote excellence in British innovation, "we want to do in Mexico because we know that it is a very innovative country, and we know we can collaborate with our Mexican friends."
Thus, the project will allow British companies, institutions and individuals to establish partnerships with their Mexican counterparts, from robotics to the life sciences; and from space technology to the creative industries.
"Following the success of the UK and Mexico Dual Year 2015, the bilateral relationship is stronger than ever, which has paved the way for compelling new opportunities for collaboration; The United Kingdom finds in Mexico an invaluable ally with similar ideas, goals and values, "he explained.
In that context, the ambassador said that the Newton Found program that promotes collaboration in science and technology, and in which scholarships are paid for Mexican students to study masters; also with the fund of prosperity that serves to invest in projects of collaboration with Mexico, went from having a fund of 2 million pounds to 6 million pounds.
However, he said, a five-year program is already underway in which the European country could invest between £ 60 and £ 85 million in projects to share experience and bring experts from the UK to further deepen and expand the relationship, "and that shows that we have a commitment to develop this very good and friendly relationship we have with Mexico. "
In the business sector, the British embassy's international trade department will work on a program that includes projects with the automotive sector on low-carbon emissions issues and will expose advanced technology solutions.
Also in creative artistic industries, British creators will participate in festivals of music, art and technology in Mexico, with sound installations and visual effects.
